Tiger Woods Allergies, passed to his son Charlie

Tiger Woods allergies are something he’s dealt with his whole career. With a recent video out that show his similarities with his son Charlie, apparently he has allergies as well.

From club twirls to fist pumps to allergies, even Tiger Woods can’t believe the similarities between him and his son, Charlie

Back early in his career, Tiger Woods spoke about his allergies. “I think I’m allergic to my job,” said Woods, who mentioned Tuesday that his allergies are bothering him at Muirfield. “I’m allergic to grass, trees, dust, pollen, it’s something I’ve always had. When I was a kid, it was 10 times worse than it is now.”

His son Charlie Woods was seen on video rubbing his nose after playing golf, this sometimes can be referred to as the “allergic salute”.

Allergic Salute

The fact that Tiger Woods son has allergies is not a surprise given the strong genetic tendency for allergies to be passed along to children.

This familial tendency to develop allergic conditions is thought to have a genetic link known as atopic. It is estimated that more than half of children born into atopic families will develop an allergic disease, whereas the incidence of children with no family history of allergic disease is one in five.

There are a number of ways for allergic rhinitis to be treated. The gold standard of care is to use a steroidal nasal spray such as Flonase, Nasocort or a number of others. These nasal sprays used to be prescription only, but now they are over the counter. Most commonly, patients use oral antihistamines such as Zyrtec, Allegra, Claritin or Benadryl as well.

Allergic Rhinitis

Another option could be allergy immunotherapy. There are different forms of it, but most commonly it is referred to as subcutaneous immunotherapy or allergy shots. A series of injections are given in order to desensitize a person to their allergic triggers.

Allergy Shots

The earliest age that most allergists recommend starting allergy shots is approximately 5 years old, although it can be started earlier depending on the circumstances of the patient. Charlie Woods is 12 years old currently, so he could be a candidate for it.

If you are suffering from allergies, you can see an allergist to get tested to determine your triggers and come up with the best solution for you.
