The FDA recently approved Merck’s ragweed tablet, RAGWITEK. This follows on the heels of recently approved grass tablets, GRASTEK and ORALAIR.
Rollout will probably occur sometime in the summer of 2014. It remains to be seen whether or not insurance carriers will cover these services. The tablets will need to be taken 3 months prior to the season, which will most likely not help allergy sufferers for this year. No other allergen tablet has been approved yet, so patients who have tree, dust mite, dog, cat or mold allergy will not benefit from these products. It remains to be seen whether or not FDA approval for these products will happen.
